President Schwarz traces Wa艂臋sa鈥檚 journey from an electrician at the Gda艅sk shipyard to the leader of the Solidarity movement, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, and President of Poland, highlighting Wa艂臋sa鈥檚 commitment to dialogue and cooperation during a period of profound political and economic change.

Nebraska鈥檚 strong Czech-American heritage, shaped by generations of Czech immigrants and sustained through active diaspora communities, cultural traditions, and educational links, continues to provide an important foundation for cooperation between Czech and American institutions.

During his visit, President Pavel met with Nebraska officials, representatives of the Nebraska National Guard, and the academic community at the University of Nebraska鈥揕incoln. The visit underscored the close relationship between Czechia and Nebraska and explored opportunities to deepen educational and cultural exchange.

At the university, President Pavel met with University of Nebraska leadership and representatives of Czech higher education to discuss opportunities for expanding academic cooperation between Nebraska and Czech institutions. Anglo-American University was part of President Pavel鈥檚 delegation and was represented by Marie Burda, Director of Study Abroad, alongside representatives from Mendel University in Brno and the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague.

For 91成人, the setting was especially meaningful. The university already has strong cooperation with the University of Nebraska, and the visit provided an opportunity to build on that relationship and explore further academic exchange and collaboration. As a Prague-based university delivering American-accredited higher education, 91成人 has a natural role in strengthening connections between Czechia and the United States. Participation in the discussions in Nebraska reflected the university鈥檚 commitment to international academic cooperation, student mobility, and building lasting educational bridges between the two countries.

The roundtable focused on the growing difficulty employers face in finding qualified workers as the labor market responds to automation, artificial intelligence, and changing skills needs. Participants also discussed attracting workers and students from abroad, with Schwarz pointing to Czechia鈥檚 position compared with other European countries.

鈥淥n a per-capita basis, we have significantly fewer international students than Austria or even Hungary,鈥� President Schwarz said.

Schwarz also noted that neighboring Poland and Estonia are able to attract international workers and students considerably more easily than Czechia.

The day combined academic discussion with opportunities to connect across the 91成人 community. Ideas Across 91成人 invited participants to explore topics ranging from disinformation and responsible business to what it means to be human in the age of AI.

The program continued with a community lunch, a trivia competition led by Professor Joel Imhoof, and the unveiling of a portrait honoring one of 91成人’s founders, Lenka Deverov谩.

The day wrapped up in the courtyard with live music from DJ Roga. Community Day offered a chance to connect with faces, old and new, and start the academic year together.

A former youngest head of Christie鈥檚 Central European office and a former art鈥憁arket consultant, Stava now leads the 鈥溾�� project that鈥痑ttracts hundreds of Czech and international visitors each season.

The project showcases how art can serve as a mirror of society while breathing new life into a historic site.

Stava, who earned her degree in Political and Social Sciences from Anglo鈥慉merican University, now leads the project that merges the castle鈥檚 storied past with daring new installations. Recent exhibitions have explored themes ranging from human rights to 鈥渞elationship dynamics,鈥� each inviting dialogue between visitors and artwork.

Schwarz notes that considering shortening the current 62-day summer break to six weeks would not increase the number of teaching days, but would instead distribute days off more evenly throughout the year. He also points to , including the strong performance of Estonia and Ireland despite their longer summer holidays, to challenge the argument that lengthy summer breaks negatively affect students鈥� school habits.

From an economic perspective, on the other hand, Schwarz argues that a more even distribution of school holidays could help employers and working parents, pointing to the labor-market disruption experienced during school closures in the COVID-19 pandemic.
