Film Screening: “Waves” & Discussion with Director Jiřà Mádl
The 91³ÉÈË Library cordially invites you to a special film screening of Vlny (Waves, 2024), followed by a moderated discussion with the prominent Czech director and actor Jiřà Mádl.
The Czech historical thriller Vlny (Waves, 2024) depicts the struggle of a Czechoslovak Radio crew during the 1968 Soviet invasion. The movie has achieved major international success, earning a spot on the 97th Academy Awards shortlist for Best International Feature Film, winning the Satellite Award for Best Foreign-Language Film, and securing six awards out of 14 nominations at the 2024 Czech Lion Awards.

Jiřà Mádl is a prominent director, screenwriter and actor. In 2009, he graduated from the University of J. A. Comenius, where he studied Social and Mass Communication, and later graduated in screenwriting at the New York Film Academy.
He has been one of the Czech Republic’s most recognizable film stars since the mid-2000s, when he rose to fame as a teenage actor in the 2004 comedy ³§²Ô´Ç·É²ú´Ç²¹°ùÄ�᳦¾±. Over the past two decades, he has transitioned from acting to becoming one of the most respected filmmakers in contemporary Czech cinema.
